Late 17th century style authentically looking stomacher, historical free style recreation of Baroque costumes, circa 1690

Ladies size Petite Small.

Dimensions:

12.5” length x 8” width
(excluding cotton twill tabs)

This is an opulent floral hand embroidery with glass beads and glass pearls, cotton, silky satin, and metallic threads.

The embroidery theme of the stomacher captures floral exoticism - imaginary fruit on the vine.
Late 17th century colonization by some European countries brought a new trend into paintings, silk weaving, embroidery, and even interior designs - Fantasizing the Exoticism. Floral designs, exotic birds, and imaginary fruits dominated the fashions.

The stomacher reflects its early era, a novelty clothing item just entering the fashion scene in the late 17th century.
Colors are neutral with complimenting bright gemstone hues of red, blue, and green. Antiqued gold and silver metallic thread were used to add to the authentic look.

The stomacher is fully boned.

The stomacher consists of three layers: front embroidery on heavy cotton polyester blend canvas, cotton canvas interlining, and polyester satin lining.

The layers were machine stitched together to secure the cotton twill tabs, and hand dyed silk shibori ribbon edging was hand stitched in place for an authentic hand sewn look.

Edged with vintage and novelty gold metallic lace.

Early 18th century stomachers were pinned on to the stays, or alternatively laced through the tabs of the stomacher and the tabs of the inside of the bodice.

Perfect for theater, film, historical reenactment, historical fairs and services or as photography costume prop.

Handcrafted in Austin, Texas.
